The Pilot

  • In 2012, Jody Graffunder fulfilled his childhood ambition of becoming a pilot. Today he is one of only a half-dozen airshow performers flying the Yak 52. He constantly strives for excellence and safety while putting on an exciting show that includes some maneuvers not typically seen in this airplane. Based in Eau Claire WI, Jody loves sharing aviation with others. He welcomes giving children an up-close look at his unique airplane and, if circumstances allow, even sitting in the cockpit and getting pictures!

    The Plane

  • The Yak 52W, with its eye-catching 9-foot prop, is a beast. Developed in the Soviet Union during the 1970's, this powerful and capable Warbird was designed for military purposes and was their primary trainer up through the 1990's. It's rated for +7/-5 Gs and can fly inverted up to two minutes. Add in the 400 horsepower M-14P engine and you've got a versatile airplane made for hard work with the throaty sounding 9-cylinder radial engine to match. Larger than most aerobatic aircraft in its class, the Yak 52W will create a distinctive presence at any airshow.

    The Purpose

  • Jody understands the importance of creating a memorable experience that resonates with an audience long after the show is over. As an airshow promoter, you have a hard job with many balls to juggle. Jody would be happy to work with you to customize the best partnership for your airshow. He's not just thinking about the audience, but understands the importance of working as a team to ensure a safe and successful experience for everyone involved. He wants to help you achieve an airshow your community will enjoy and look forward to attending year after year.
